(71,265 posts)NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) A hearing is set Monday morning in New York Supreme Court as part of a case by an animal rights group against the NYPD in connection with the citys horse-drawn carriages.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund claims there is clear evidence of ongoing violations, accidents and injuries involving horse-drawn carriages, but that police refuse to hand over public records of incidents involving horse-drawn carriages.
The NYPD is essentially on trial for refusing to adhere to the lawmeanwhile, horses have been seriously injured, Stephen Wells, executive director of the ALDF, said in a statement. The public deserves to see NYPDs records of just how many problems result from the inhumane industry of urban horse-drawn carriages.
A judge is expected to review the records and determine whether the NYPD has to release them.
