UPDATE - So talk me out/in to moving to New Mexico

I've lived in Texas all of my 67 years, and as imperfect as it is, I never saw myself my leaving. But the latest MURDER of a mother and 2 children trying to cross the Rio Grande is just too much. Add the unbearable heat and humidity and I'm just ready to call myself a former Texan. I'm looking for a new job anyway (bookkeeper/staff accountant) so why not look in NM. My car is paid for. I live in a weekly rental, so moving is relatively easy. What do you think?

1. What part? I love the area north of Santa Fe.

It's a beautiful state. Will it stay blue?

New Mexico is not without its flaws but it is solidly blue, state and federal. You might avoid SE New Mexico (very conservative).

It’s lovely. It’s blue. There’s lots to do. Up here in Santa Fe, there are four seasons which I quite like, but you should prepare for depending on where you move. Finding reasonable rents in the Santa Fe area is a problem, so do your research as to where you’ll land. No place is perfect, but having lived in Fort Worth and Santa Fe, I’d pick New Mexico. 4. I firmly believe that Texas will turn blue and I want to be a part of this process

I am also upset by the killing/homicide of these two children and their parent. Greg is an asshole who may be auditioning to be TFG's VP. Greg is a former toxic tort litigator who bragged about cheating widows and orphans out of what was due to them.

I firmly believe that the demographic trends mean that Texas will turn blue eventually. Texas is becoming more urban and less rural. Texas is also becoming younger with the older assholes are dying off and being replaced by younger voters. Texas is not a red state or blue state but a non-voting state. Texas will turn blue. I can see Colin beating Carnival Cruz and the state becoming more competitive in the 2026 races.

Burn the unbearable heat is just going to get worse. I'm sensitive to ozone, which goes up with the heat. So between the heat and the traffic in the cities, it's just going to get worse.

10. Moving to NM?

As someone who has lived most of his life in New Mexico, I can truly say I love this place. I have seen not quite two thirds of this country, had a taste of Canada and have spent time in Europe and South America, and felt this place was always its own place and not really part of “America.” I’m not born from here, to use a colloquialism, but feel it is my home.
Texans catch a bit of carrílla (hard time; shit) because a lot, not all, bring their TEX-ASS attitude with them and the enclaves that have developed tend to the red side. I see more and more of those Lone Star license plates all the time and worry about it affecting our blue hue.
That being said, I’ve known some very cool people from Tejas over the years. Your reasons for wanting to leave strike a chord and think you could be a better fit here than some of the others I’ve seen and dealt in my time in the ski industry. I took care of a LOT of sick and injured Bubbas over the years and got to see quite a spectrum of folks. Very red to very cool.
So, like someone in the feed above said, you might be happier in central and northern NM. It’s a special place with unique challenges. You are not much older than I am, btw.

13. I love NM. Moved here from TX about 1973

as a 4th grader. Grew up in Southwest NM. In Silver City near The Gila National Forest (first national forest declared as such late 1800s T. Roosevelt). A wonderful area. And I’ve been in Albuquerque since 1980 (college and eventual accounting career). I’ve raised three kids in NM largely in the 90s. Originally from Texas I never failed to appreciate the cultural diversity and inclusion of our state. From our rich Hispanic culture to our equally rich Native American heritage kids tend to grow up with great acceptanc of others That always meant a lot to me and I feel moving here made a big difference in the way I viewed the world. More expansive I guess than had I been raised in Texas. But I do love Texas still and I won’t give up on my home state.

I continue to love NM. And the weather? Just can’t beat the weather here. Four seasons. No humidity to speak of.

Jobs don't last forever like they once did. I had a little house back when I was a teacher, but now when I get a job I just move as close as I can. Driving in traffic is a waste of life!

Sadly, Texas still is not democratic. Today it is very red at the ballot box despite being abusive to most voters. The Civil Rights Act was pushed forward by Lyndon Johnson for crying out loud. Texas is a walking contradiction

New Mexico was a fun place to live. I moved away because of climate change and poor school funding for our child
