Albuquerque: More than 40,000 people called 911 and got a recorded message
More than 40,000 people called 911 last year in Albuquerque and got a recorded message that told them to “Not hang up. Stay on the line for the next available operator,” according to documents obtained by Target 7.
According to the National Emergency Number Association, 90 percent of all 911 calls must be answered within 10 seconds. That’s widely considered the national standard. That’s about three rings.
Records obtained by Target 7 show at one point there were 25 jobs openings at 911 forcing many dispatchers and 911 operators to work 14-hour days.
When target 7 analyzed the data, there hasn't been a year since 2014 in which the national standard was met on a yearly basis.
