Albuquerque: Result of plastic bag ban

Being elderly and disabled, I have been using Wal-Mart Delivery for grocery shopping.

Today’s delivery totaled 38 items and, because plastic bags are no longer allowed, the items were sent to me loose
(see photo, items placed in my cart upon arrival at my apartment).

I thought they were to use paper bags? The ‘DoorDash’ delivery driver apologized, saying Wal-Mart refused any type of bag.

Again, this was "Wal-Mart Delivery" who sent the groceries to me via a DoorDash driver. I would expect Wal-Mart to put them in paper bags used at the store, and tack any fee onto my bill. I also expect/hope the drivers in the future will have something in which to carry the items.

1. Stop using Walmart. Call and ask places like Target what they will be doing.

It's Walmart being Walmart. It is there way to fire up 45s base, "the liberals ruin everything".....as if there are only plastic bags in existence.

2. DoorDash sucks.

Try Instacart. They shop tons of grocery stores and I have never had any delivery person pull anything that was unacceptable. They deliver groceries in the reusable plastic bags.

Here DoorDash just delivers.
Walmart picks the items, and turns them over to DD for delivery.

As I stated in the OP, the DD driver asked WM for bags and was refused.

8. The one and only DD delivery I had was unreal.

The DD delivery lady was 3 hours late, the frozen food thawed and because I commented on this she screamed FUCK YOU at me and threw my groceries in the mud from the rain at the bottom of my porch stairs and broke all the glass jars. Instacart person had her own new reuseable bags and was an absolute doll. All the Instacart people are outstanding. Have had several at my home.

Will I ever use DD again? When pigs fly.

I am hearing impaired and on top of everything else she did, when I asked her to speak to me directly because of my disability, she called me a "deaf loser" and then told me I should be thankful to that she was there at all.

No, it really happened and the store who used DD delivery terminated their use of the service by them. Besides me, others had complained about how horrible the delivery persons were and the result was that a major grocery chain in my area no longer uses DD.

3. Perhaps the door dash people

could invest in or participate in a bag exchange where everybody starts out with some cloth bags that are exchanged when delivery takes place. Kind of like how milk bottle exchanges used to happen.

At the progressive-minded, employee owned place where I get groceries they have a bag exchange and the put out boxes too for shoppers who don't have or forgot their bags. The bags are loaners so taht you can use it and bring it back next time you come to shop. It's a nice program and cuts down on the number of bags we see caught in trees in our lovely but windy town.

Maybe some system of that kind would help, it just isn't proper to pack your groceries like that. And the door dash folks need to get some bagging skills, that mess is just wrong. Besides, walmart has reusable bags, that person should have purchased a couple and added it to the tab, I would have sent them back with that cart of stuff.

Perhaps you should let the door dash higher-ups know about that and suggest a bag exchange. If it was me, I'd be letting the door dash folks know that this is unacceptable, I mean, you PAY them for the service, correct? This is a less than kind of thing, you got less than what you're paying for. They must have some guarantee of getting your order to you in some acceptable fashion, right? You deserve better than what you got and paid for.

Your town sounds lovely. How did you find it?

Moving to the mainland sounds very good sometimes but I don’t know how I would ever find a nice community. It’s so big and so much of it is rather grim.

14. I always knew it was here...

I just had to experience the upper elevations while I still could, now I'm down from the mountain and in one of the villages at the base of the range. It's pretty red-necky around here but we libruls make a pretty good go of it in some places. I usually chose a new place by hanging out there for a spell to see what the locals and their issues are like. It helps to have some time to do that.

I had the advantage of taking a local position to get me to my relocation place and living at the ranger station while I evacuated the old place. I knew I would end up here years ago so it wasn't just an uprooting to looking for a place to land. I used to travel through here decades before I moved here but I also planned to retire here at that time, back in the 70s. Even though you're out in the middle of the Pacific, we're both sitting on top of mega volcanoes.

5. If this is an unusual practice contact the store.

They need to know. If it's the norm then you just have to change vendors. I think using carts or your own bags is a great idea but this is just negligence.

..my car is filled with reusable bags and they get pretty gross after awhile

They can more than afford paper bags.

On a side note, our plastic bag ban began at midnight last night in Vermont. It’s about damn time. Hate those things. Beyond environmental implications, they’re a huge waste. I just don’t like single use. I dispise waste of any kind. We humans are smarter then that.
