APD releases name of officer involved in horrific crash
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.
Albuquerque police released the name of the officer involved in Monday's horrific crash. A mother and two children were turning left to go eastbound on Indian School Road when APD officer Johnathan McDonnell T-boned their car while going northbound on Eubank Boulevard. The family's SUV spun around and was pinned to a stop light pole.
APD spokesperson Simon Drobik said McDonnell had his lights and siren on during the accident. Drobik also said there was a green light at the intersection.
McDonnell was reportedly on his way to a violent crime on Juan Tabo Boulevard, where an individual was threatening people in a local business with a knife.
The brutal collision sent everyone involved to a hospital. McDonnell has undergone at least two surgeries and has a broken leg and ankle.
The family asked for the mother and children's conditions not be released, Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office said.
