Freehold DMV question

Today was the third time I went to the DMV to renew my license and the third time I've been turned away.

The first time the lines were too long. Fine.

Second time a police officer working the admittance counter tells me I'm going to want to come back later in the month because the software for the new license ID isn't installed yet.

Fast forward later in the month to today, lady tells me to come back in May when the new software is there.

Me: I was told the new software would be ready this month.

Lady: You misunderstood.

Question for DU: Am I going to need the new driver's license to vote in November?

I registered to vote a couple elections ago.

Will I have to re-register for a new voter I.D. with the new license?

Or is a license renewal totally unrelated to voting?

Thanks!

DMV has been and apparently still is a mess. I'd go to Eatontown if I were you. Bigger and faster service. All I ever had to show was my ID, whether it be license or school or State ID, but you will have to provide it along with your voter registration card. Hope I was helpful.

Good to know they are a mess, actually. I was beginning to think they were trying to keep me from renewing my license, which is crazy. First time I went there a police officer was escorting an angry elderly lady out of the place. LOL. It's a zoo in there, is right.

Thanks for the tip.

go to the DVM in Salem City.

If you hit it on a crowded day, it's maybe a 15 minute wait. Sometimes I have been in and out in less than 5 minutes

I had a driver's license, a passport and a gun permit. I am not sure I needed all of them.

If you are already registered you may not have to show ID at the polling station--

I have never shown ID at my polling station

http://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/vote_id_req.html
If you did not provide identification to the county commissioner of registration or if the identification information could not be verified (i.e., your driver's license number or the last four digits of your social security number), YOU MUST SHOW IDENTIFICATION AT THE POLLING PLACE WHEN YOU GO TO VOTE.

Identification may include, but not limited to, Any Current and Valid Photo ID:

Driver’s license

Student or job ID

Military or other government ID

Store membership ID

United States passport

OR

Bank statement

Car registration

Government check or document

Non-photo driver’s license

Rent receipt

Sample ballot

Utility bill

or any other official document

If you show identification, you will vote in the voting machine.

If you do not show identification, you will vote by provisional ballot and have until the close of business on the second day after the election to provide identification to the applicable county election office. You will be given a hand-out at the polling place that will tell you which county election office to contact.

I just wonder what this "new driver's license I.D." is all about. I saw an undercover video on YouTube made in a Wisconsin DMV where, if one of the forms of I.D. you bring is a bank statement, they are rejecting it if there isn't enough activity on it. Forget about the fact that viewing a bank statement seems to be a violation of privacy. I have no clue what I am going to encounter once I renew but as long as it doesn't obstruct my voting rights, I'll be fine.

Thanks!

And never had a problem there. I was advised to go there instead of the (closer to me) one in Eatontown.

I'm due to renew my license next year, and I hesitate to know what it will be like with the state's new policies.

Taken care of yet? Try the Somerville DMV - open Saturdays -and excellent team in there. They really are quite efficient and friendly.

Third time there. Third time told better to come back another time. This time they said near the end of this month. Lol

Now my curiosity is peeked. I wonder if this is all because of republican led ID laws.

except when they lost my regitration and I had to do a provisional paper ballot. It has been corrected, this time I had to declare a party but not show an ID, they started a new sign in page.
