New Jersey gov says Cuomo promised Garden State drivers exemption from congestion pricing

New Jersey drivers may have a new savior: Gov. Cuomo.

Garden State residents who drive into Manhattan through Hudson River toll entrances won’t have to pay a congestion tax, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said at a Bergen County press conference Wednesday. That would save New Jersey residents from a double-hit when congestion pricing takes effect in 2021.

Murphy said the promise was made by Cuomo during a conversation the two governors had last week.

“This understanding is that NJ commuters will be treated equally at all Hudson River crossings, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels and the George Washington Bridge,” Murphy said. "New Jersey will also have a seat at the table as the plan moves forward.”
