Charter to pay $225,000 to Missouri in settlement over alleged no-call list violations
JEFFERSON CITY • In a settlement announced Monday, Charter Communications admitted no fault over allegations company employees made "thousands" of unwanted phone calls to consumers on Missouri's No-Call List.
The company will, however, pay $225,000 to the state, which will be deposited into Missouri's Merchandising Practices Revolving Fund.
In 2015, Former Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster sued Charter in federal court in St. Louis, alleging the company violated state and federal telemarketing laws.
He alleged Charter sales staff tried to sell products to customers on the no-call list. State and federal laws prohibit calls to people on the no-call lists, but companies can still call their customers — unless the customer asks them to stop.
