Forgery charges dropped against police officers in embattled Vandalia, Mo.
Charges have been dismissed against two police officers in Vandalia, Mo., after a new police administration accused the former part-time employees of lying on their time sheets.
William Parker, 38, and William E. Jones, 44, were charged Aug. 14 with multiple counts of forgery. Their attorney said officials told him Monday that the felony charges were being dismissed.
Online court records no longer list the accusations.
Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Nathan Carroz, who signed the charging documents, didn’t return a call for comment Tuesday morning. A clerk from his office declined to discuss the cases, which originated in neighboring Audrain County.
Vandalia Police Chief Christopher Hammann said the forgery probe was turned over to Carroz in May as a special prosecutor in the matter because the former part-time police officers had served in Audrain County.
