Appeals court sides with Forrest County sheriff in alienation of affection case
The Mississippi Court of Appeals agreed with a lower court's ruling that a man accusing Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee of ruining his marriage had no new grounds to continue a lawsuit against the lawman.
David Michael "Mickey" Lyon of Hattiesburg filed a civil suit in 2014, claiming McGee's adulterous relationship with Lyon's ex-wife, Emma "Robin" Lyon, caused the breakup of the marriage.
He sought $1 million in actual damages and $4,000 in punitive damages, as well as attorney fees.
Lyon in the lawsuit said he discovered the relationship in October 2013, months after the couple had separated but before the couple's divorce was final, even though he tried to introduce evidence the affair started much earlier than that.
