Civil defense sirens throughout Henn. Co. are a false alarm

Indeed.

We woke up, were not sure what was happening. Should we do to the basement? Turned on the TV - nothing on KSTP, at least. KARE11 which is close to our home was just reporting the weather and someone commented that they did not know why the sirens were blowing. And then they were off...

The sheriff's office, in a statement, said the sirens are tested internally daily — a test that does not sound the sirens. Tuesday there was a "momentary computer hardware malfunction during the daily test," the statement said. The system has since been repaired and is functioning normally.

Five hours after the rude wake-up, residents got a tweeted apology from the county's emergency management Twitter account. "Apologies for inconvenience/confusion from this morning siren," the tweet said, adding that a Thursday test was on schedule as normal.

I put the TV on and when I saw none of the locals were having weather hysterics I went back to bed for 1/2 hour.
