A Tech Lab Leading Innovation from Downtown Detroit

from The Atlantic:

"A lot of people have that hesitation," he says. "They're not sure about moving to Detroit."

The city, which has lost half of its population in the wake of the auto industry collapse, has a bad reputation. Many buildings are abandoned, and thousands of residents live in some of the most extreme poverty in the country.

But Hughes, a Michigan native, and his Detroit Labs partners saw the potential of the city as fertile ground for a thriving tech startup--and after visiting, their candidates do, too. .................(more)

While the " country club sect" deserted Detroit (and many other cities) when the glow wore off,the cities aged, the crime increased as the buildings became deserted it is time to take back these cities once again. It's too bad the mega million group feel more apt to invest in off shore accounts then right here where many made their fortune.

This is good for The D. Love to hear about that. I worked a contract downtown earlier this year for about 4 months. It was AWESOME. I can't wait to move back. Preferably in the N. Cass Corridor, now known as 'Midtown'.
