Too often only the bad is focused on in Detroit (and there is a lot) but this is a city in the midst of revitalization so I just wanted to share some pictures of our Motor City with other DUers. I know Michiganders will like this!

(135,425 posts)I have never been to Detroit. I am so glad it is being revitalized! What beautiful images!
And this is the town that RMoney wanted to leave to die?
Rmoney wanted Detroit to go under! It has so many financial problems and the threat of "emergency management" which is really dictatorship, but this is a city where entrepreneurs are really stepping up. Midtown where the Institute of Arts and Wayne State University is located has been nearly completely revitalized. They are even getting a whole foods, which never would have been possible in the past. Downtown is exploding with new development and the historical neighborhoods are seeing a resurgence. They just had a report that 5,000 apartments would have to come available tomorrow in Downtown just to hit demand. There is a waiting list. Blue Cross and Quicken Loans have brought about 14k jobs into Downtown just between the two of them.
All this said, so many neighborhoods are in a hopeless spiral, here is hoping the revitalization can effect all of Detroit.
Also, Belle Isle (designed by the same person who designed Central Park, is now a state run park and they are promising to renew it to it's former glory.)

(11,147 posts)The homes sold from as cheap as $500 up to a maximum of $5 or $6000 with most selling for much less.
Detroit DOES have a few neighborhoods that are total losses. So many homes have been abandoned, burned down, and torn down, that the only way to revitalize the neighborhood would be too build many brand new homes.
Most of the neighborhoods in Detroit have just a small handful of homes that are wrecks, but even those homes usually have a brick exterior and are within neighborhoods that still have a vast majority of the homes still in excellent condition.
I'm guessing the best deals are the cheap homes that are still within vibrant neighborhoods.

(1,045 posts)I know I'm homesick when I start dreaming about Indian Village homes (as I did a few nights ago).
I grew up in the Aviation Subdivision. still a very homey middle class area, and I sleep like I'm 10 years old again when I'm visiting my parents' home.

(210 posts)I was frequently in the city during my childhood, as my parents were both born there, and a lot of my family still lives there. I never gave up on Detroit, I have spent a lot of time through the years there. But lately it is looking like it's on track for a major resurgence. Detroit is beautiful. I encourage everybody to come see for themselves.
