Mom of slain Detroit man sues police for $50M

Detroit — The mother of Terrance Kellom — an unarmed black man fatally shot by authorities during a raid two years ago — on Thursday filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against three officers involved in her son’s death.

The federal complaint from Nelda Kellom states that Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Mitchell Quinn, who did not face criminal charges in the matter, had “no justifiable excuse or reason” to shoot Kellom in April 2015.

Two Detroit police officers, Darell Fitzgerald and Treva Eaton, are also named in the complaint.

The family’s attorney, Nabih H. Ayad, said officers entered the home unlawfully with an arrest warrant and not a search warrant prior to shooting Kellom.
