Worcester housing official charged in $2.3M fraud scheme
A woman who worked as a Worcester city employee has been charged in a $2.3 million fraud scheme relating to the redevelopment of multi-family building in the city, according to court documents.
Jacklyn Sutcivni, of Dracut, worked in the city's Housing Development Office of the Executive Office of Economic Development, according to an indictment from the U.S. District Court in Worcester filed Friday. She and James E. Levin, an attorney of Natick, have been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, false, fictitious or fraudulent claims, and criminal forfeiture, according to documents in from the federal case.
Sutcivni pleaded not guilty to the counts on Friday. She was released on personal recognizance with a $15,000 bond entered.
The scheme allegedly began around July 2010 and continued to about September 2011, according to court documents. The defendants allegedly submitted and approved false payment requests to the city and the state department of Housing and Urban Development to rehabilitate a multi-unit apartment building at 5 May St. in Worcester.
