Members of the U.S. military, who are assigned to area recruiting offices, are sworn as sheriff's deputies Monday, at the Bristol County House of Correction. The Sheriff's office requested the recruiters' faces not be shown, citing security concerns.

FALL RIVER — The 13 newest sworn deputy sheriffs in Bristol County wear the fatigues and dress uniforms of the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Monday, the military personnel, all recruiters assigned to duty stations in Bristol County, raised their right hands and took a new oath to be of service to the Bristol County Sheriff’s Department should the need ever arise for them to respond to local critical situations.

“We’re in this thing together. We may wear different uniforms, but we have a common mission,” said Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson, who lead the servicemen and women in the swearing-in ceremony.

Hodgson later said that deputizing the military recruiters is the beginning of a new initiative to encourage collaboration between local law enforcement and the military. Hodgson said that through sharing intelligence and opening up new lines of communication, law enforcement and military personnel can better address domestic and national security threats.
