HANOVER – Some residents have been failing to comply with the town’s mandatory restrictions on outdoor water use, town officials said Monday.

Town Manager Troy Clarkson imposed the restrictions May 26 to help the town maintain an adequate supply of water for drinking and firefighting. The restrictions are also intended to ensure that streams don’t dry up, which would do harm to fish and other aquatic species.

Town Public Works Director Victor Diniak told selectmen Monday night that his department had sent 60 notices to residents to inform them that they had been violating the mandate.

“This town has a problem,” Diniak said. “We have an insatiable need for green lawns.”
