Skydivers Who Died in Tandem Jump Identified

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — The two skydivers killed after they crashed into a building during a tandem jump on Cape Cod appeared to be having problems as they descended, police said.

Andrew Munson, of Nantucket, and his instructor, Eldon Burrier, of West Lynnwood, Washington, died Sunday while skydiving at the Marstons Mills Airport in Barnstable, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe and Barnstable Police Chief Paul McDonald said in a joint statement Monday.

Munson, 29, and Burrier, 48, were involved in a tandem jump from a plane operated by Skydive Barnstable. They struck a shed on private property adjacent to the airport at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told police the pair appeared to be in trouble, descending too fast and out of control.

‘‘We were notified that a student and an instructor were descending at a fairly high rate of speed having a problem with their chute,’’ Sgt. Ben Baxter said. ....

1. I knew a couple of people who sky dived.

Mutual friends almost worshiped their daring. A month ago a sky diver was killed in our town after hitting a bridge on the way down.
I guess it is a thrill to fall from the sky but I don't think it is a wise thing to do.

I've been on helos where the back opens up and you can look down, down, down...and that was more than enough fun for me.

I agree with those who aren't into jumping out of perfectly good airplanes!

4. I flew in slicks in Vietnam. Those are Huey's

with the doors removed. Gunners sat on the floor on either side with their legs hanging out and a m-60 in their hands. When ever we had people who never rode in one before we put them on the end of the bench seat by the doors. Inertia held you in place but they didn't know that. Is we took off the pilot banked so steep you were looking out the doorway straight at the ground. Great fun to watch the newbies.
