Related: About this forumMaryland vote tomorrow to override hogan Voting Rights veto.
Last session the Maryland General Assembly overwhelmingly passed Senate Bill 340/House Bill 980 to restore voting rights to nearly 40,000 people living and working in our communities with past criminal convictions.
Infuriatingly, in May 2015, Governor Larry Hogan vetoed the popular bill denying the more than 40,000 Marylanders their right to vote.
These are citizens who have served their time and deserve to participate in our democracy--restoring the right to vote gives people a stake in their community and helps people reintegrate into our society.
Tomorrow, Wednesday Jan. 20, the Maryland General Assembly will vote to override Governor Hogans veto.
Please sign and send a message to your members of the Maryland General Assembly, urging them to do the right thing and restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated people by voting to override Gov. Hogan.
Keep fighting,

(16,286 posts)then they get to set the agenda.
If their agenda is to control Women and their bodies, then that is what will happen.
If their agenda is to expand rights and liberties, then that is what will happen.
Now without looking it up, I can tell you that Hogan is a Republican, I did not know that before reading this thread, but it is a certainty that he is.
Why is it a certainty? Because preventing certain types of voters from voting helps Republicans, and that is what this is, preventing Americans from voting.
Ya know, if a country like Canada was creating barrier after barrier, unconstitutional law after unconstitutional law, preventing voting by very specific groups, we might offer troops to come in and fix it.
But it goes on here like it is normal. Unacceptable.
