College closed. Shelter in place, was posted on the Web site of the small liberal arts college on the Eastern Shore.
Shortly after 7:30 a.m., the college added this on its Web site:
We received notification early this morning from the parents of sophomore [students name removed by The Washington Post] that he had returned home and retrieved a firearm. The parents have not been able to reach him and do not know where he is or where is he is headed.
Due to an abundance of caution the college has decided to close campus for the time being and asks all students and staff on campus to shelter in place. Anyone off campus should stay away from campus until further notice.
Public Safety has requested and received support from local law enforcement who are now on campus. A sweep of the parking lots and campus buildings is being conducted.

Maryland's Washington College Campus Closed Through Thanksgiving Break
by Rachel Kurzius in News on Nov 18, 2015 3:53 pm
Washington College will remain closed through Thanksgiving break, the school's president announced this afternoon.
The Eastern Shore school has already been closed for three days and evacuated in response to a student, Jacob Marberger, who has been missing since the early morning of November 16. Marberger's parents called Washington College to say he returned home to the suburbs of Philadelphia and retrieved a firearm, and they have been unable to contact the 19-year-old since. ... The search for Marberger continues.
The school said that, "we have not had any direct threats against campus or any members of our community, but in the interest in caution we feel closing campus until the situation changes is the best course of action."
Based on ongoing conversations with law enforcement, President Sheila C. Bair said they expect the campus will re-open on Sunday, November 29th and classes will start again on Monday, November 30th.
