Mike Michaud won’t run for Senate

Michaud said in a statement, “While I have been humbled by all the support and encouragement I have received in the last few days, I’ve decided to not run for the U.S. Senate this year. I want to continue to represent the wonderful people of Maine’s second district and keep working on the unique issues and challenges we face. I am also very proud of what I have been able to accomplish on behalf of Maine’s and America’s veterans and that work must continue.”

That was a quick about-face. Kinda screws Emily Cain and Matt Dunlap, but at least this should mean his seat is safe.

It was not an official "announcement." I bet Baldacci doesn't actually run either, but Chellie just might. Cain will run for and win the state senate seat in her area. If Chellie runs but King or Cutler are also in, then the fear is they split the sane vote and the RePuke gets in, but that also depends on if the RePukes nominate at least a fairly sane candidate or a TeaNut. If it is Chellie, a male RePuke, and a male Indy, then she has a chance to win if Democrats everywhere in the state get solidly behind her and don't deviate to the Indy(s), and if she can get many Indy women and even some moderate R women. It will come down to what kind of coalition she can put together. King would be very formidable, and so would Cutler. But especially King. He is much admired in Maine.
