Senate advances performance-based funding for universities
FRANKFORT, Ky. – A bill to change the funding formula for higher education, won easy passage in the Kentucky Senate on Wednesday.
Senate Bill 153 would base part of the allocations to state colleges and universities on factors that include student success and course completion, said Senate President Pro Tem David Givens, the sponsor of the measure.
The goal of the bill, Givens said, “is to change the current funding model for the state’s eight public universities and the Kentucky Community and Technology College System.
Givens, R-Greensburg, said the goal is to increase Kentucky’s college graduation rate to 58 percent by 2025, up from the current level of 45 percent.
