UK journalism professor sues school, student who filed a complaint against him
A University of Kentucky professor is suing the school and a former student who filed a complaint against him, claiming retaliation and defamation.
In a lawsuit filed in Fayette Circuit Court Dec. 2, Buck Ryan, an associate professor in UK's School of Journalism and Media, accused the university and its Title IX coordinator of continually retaliating against him for his actions.
Among them was Ryan's confrontation with university President Eli Capilouto over a university lawsuit against the school's student-run newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, the complaint says.
Ryan also pointed to speaking out after being disciplined by the university for alleged inappropriate behavior while on a school trip to China in 2016.
