Sigafoose, son-in-law to Gronstal, dies unexpectedly
The son-in-law of Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs, died unexpectedly Monday, according to the Iowa Democratic Party.
Dennis Sigafoose, 33, married Gronstal’s daughter, Kate, in March 2011. Sigafoose’s father, Steve Sigafoose, was a long-time sports editor for The Daily Nonpareil.
“He’s my son. It’s been devastating, absolutely devastating,” Steve Sigafoose said when reached.

An autopsy is planned in the coming days, Steve Sigafoose said. Mike Gronstal could not be reached Monday evening to comment.
Also on Monday, state Sen. Pat Ward, R-Clive, died following a three-year battle with breast cancer. Ward, first elected to the Senate in 2004, died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines about 9 a.m., her daughter told the Associated Press.
