Any storm stories folks?

We had some wind the Thursday, but it looks like for the most part we were mostly untouched. A farmer friend lost a building but he and his family were fine. We didn't even get any flooding this round, although most of the rivers around are really swollen from water up north.

It set down at a farm south of Burlington and took the roof off some buildings and destroyed a silo, then hit the airport and destroyed some hangers and other buildings. It then wreaked havoc over the southeastern part of town, snapping off trees or uprooting them, destroying decks and crushing the roof of several homes. The power was out at many of the homes until the next afternoon, as well as cable, but Alliant and Mediacom stayed on the job and had us up and running within 24 hours.

The town and parks were a mess, but people dug right in, helped each other out and we are gradually getting the yards back in order and everything hauled to the curb for pick-up.

As our attention was diverted to beautiful old trees being destroyed and broken fences, decks and damaged homes needing repair, Ol' Miss continued to rise and we are now watching for another flood. It is already out of its banks, but it depends on how quickly the water from up north hits. We've had several 500, 300 or 100-year floods maybe she will be quiet this year and let us slide by without a flood, but I wouldn't lay any money on the table for Mother Nature to be that generous.

Of course the wording has changed from tornado to straight-line winds to windshear so I feel sorry for those who will have enough damage to claim. I need to check my insurance to see what fancy wording they have to avoid paying for anything closely related to Mother Nature. I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

thank god it didn't rain much thursday friday. we would have been screwed.

Neighbors tree fell but thats partly the cities fault for backing a hoe into it and splitting it down the middle. course to go after the city on it would cost more

And several trees got blown over in town, although none in my yard. I was kinda hoping a tree would fall on my garage so I could get a new one. No such luck. But no major damage to this house or any others in town that I know of. I did have some H2O in the basement, but nothing major.
