Indiana budget: 7 takeaways from the Senate's spending plan
Indiana Senate Republicans presented their version of the state budget Thursday, proposing to spend $34.6 billion over two years.
It includes sizable increase for schools but nothing specific for teacher pay and looks to solve the funding issues at the Department of Child Services.
The proposal also addresses projected Medicaid needs and, in keeping with the governors blueprint, cuts money for a train that runs from Indianapolis to Chicago and adds the Senates say about the governors desire to dip into $1 billion to pay for a variety of transportation projects.
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the budget along party lines Thursday, and the full Senate will vote next week. A House-Senate committee will negotiate a final version before the session ends later this month.
