Would a real lefty feel comfortable living in Galena today?

I know a lot of hippies moved there after the 60's but what is life like there now? I have heard it's a mainly rethug area - at least in the town proper.

How about out in the Territory - also a "red" zone?

Thanks.

i know a lot of lefties that are lifelong residents that feel like the lone ranger. if you want to meet someone who will fill you in, next time you are there visit the stone street pottery, and talk to my friend charlie fach. he is an alderman there. he also used to sell my buttons in his gallery. or tried to.
will say the lefties that ARE there are the best.

the artists that i know out there mostly live outside of town, or over in dubuque. i think stockton is getting a little hip, and is very, very, very cheap.

I've heard that the town is very rethug with lots of summer people there and the Territory is way that way with the second home bunch.

Keep dreaming of moving there some day after the train goes in but God knows what that will be.

How are things in the art world nowadays?

i'm a happy farmer now.

folks in the territories likely feel beseiged. so many foreclosures and under water loans.
folks in the countryside as redneck as ever, tho i think they elected a dem to the house.

it's self flattery to call it a farm, but we do have chickens and fruit trees. but it is a big lot for the city.
don't grow enough to do markets, and not really up for that. grueling. looking to hook up with some chefs, private and otherwise. have someone now who brings me scraps.

yeah, i just admitted i didn't have what it took. you need a ton of energy, money to burn, and you sorta have to be young and good looking at least in the beginning. unless you are a guy, of course, but even then. connections and charisma. and a LOT of work.

It was dissolved by their very lousy chairman. They have some precinct committeemen. Go to Carroll County meetings and events if you want to meet some Democrats out there. Carroll County is doing well.

If you are interested in strengthening the party out there, you might be able to find a few interested people.

If you just want to live out there, I think a real lefty would be fine. People let each other be themselves in that area.

there`s galena with that old sold out hippie vibe. hanover to the south ain`t bad. small town where the people actually do know your name. my niece is selling her house nice 1800`s in hanover.stockton has..http://uuchurchofstockton.org/

yup it`s always been a red zone and probably always will be but it`s part of god`s country. miles and miles of great scenery, little towns ,and friendly people. in fact my wife and i just put drove over a hundred miles last weekend driving up and down the valleys. big plus is you can a day drive through southern wisconsin.
