We are an umbrella for local labor and progressive groups, lending mutual support to one another for each group's individual activities (rallies, protests, and events).
MoveOn, Represent.Us, NOW, NILB, CodePink, OCCUPY, Vets for Peace, local labor unions, et cetera... we're all here and we all have each other's backs.
The group's name is a tip of the hat to those fearless patriots that came before us, with no hint of misogyny intended.
The original "Sons of Liberty" were the American patriots who said "No!" to corporate domination and to any government who gives them aid and comfort, and made history dumping the East India Company's tea into Boston Harbor.
The group's flag is the 13 red & white striped "Rebelious Stripes" banner the original "Sons of Liberty" took with them when they boarded the King's ships and destroyed the boats' cargo.
Let the Koch Bros.' Tea Party stand under the appropriately yellow colored Gadsen Flag and that banner's snake... we chose the REAL and the original Tea Party's banner, and say "No!" to both plutocracy and oligarchy.
You'll also notice around here the liberal use of Americana and the symbols of our great nation: We are reclaiming from the radical right everything that they have stolen from us - our American heritage.
Any right-wing numbskull can plant Old Glory atop a steaming pile of horse manure and declare the dung heap something to admire, but it takes a REAL patriot to stand up, take up that flag, and tell them to their face that the only thing accomplished was the desecration of our flag as you walk away with it.
We're non-violent, but that does NOT mean non-confrontational.

Our occasional recruitment drives are nothing more than a 'numbers game'. For every ten people who LIKE this page, we get four people who will occasional attend a posted event, protest, or rally, and one precious activist gem who will drop everything to participate in a posted group activity. The more folks we have participating online, the more we can count on when we take the fight for progressive values outdoors.
