Man Stabs His Girlfriend More Than Two Dozen Times Because She Refused an Abortion

A Hawaii jury convicted a man of murdering his ex-girlfriend in December after prosecutors said he stabbed her to death for refusing to abort their unborn child.

Steven Capobianco, of Maui, was supposed to be sentenced on Friday for second-degree murder and arson, Hawaii News Now reports. According to the report, Capobianco could face 20 years to life in prison.

According to police, the ex-girlfriend, Charli Scott, was five months pregnant with their unborn child when she was killed. Prosecutors said Capobianco lured her to a remote area, claiming that his truck had broken down, and then tortured and stabbed her about 20 times; police said he also set fire to her vehicle. Prosecutors alleged that Capobianco murdered Scott in revenge for her refusing to have an abortion.

The report does not mention her unborn child who also was killed in the attack. It does not appear that there were any charges in connection to the unborn child’s death.

1. Sloppy writing annoys me. "pregnant with their unborn child"?

That's not necessary, being pregnant works well enough. I mean, what? They have to specify because she might be pregnant with their...Toaster? Or their born child? In which case she would be previously pregnant.

Aside from calling a 5 month fetus, repeatedly, an unborn child, the redundency is jarring.

3. Hawaii Free Press is not a very credible source for any type of news, IMO...

They used to be rabidly right wing and since Malia Zimmerman left, who knows what's going on over there...

The article is cobbled together from a variety of sources, the main source apparently being The Daily Mail...

Also, the article claims that Charli was "tortured and stabbed more that 20 times..." They never found her body and Capobianco has never confessed, so where does that "fact" come from...?

The judge sentenced Capobianco to life with the possibility of parole with a suggested mandatory minimum of 70 years, but as he explained to the open court that the minimum will be determined by the Hawaii Parole Board...

4. I added it to my list of news sources several months ago,

but I noticed that it does have a conservative slant to it. Unfortunately, there are not many news sources in Hawaii and it probably is the best source as far as legislation under consideration or signed into law (at least without signing onto the a legislative site and reading all of the bills).

I also look at Hawaii News Now, but I see that KHON is not one of the contributing news stations to that site. Meanwhile, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser has so many of their stories as premium content that I consider it to be a hit-and-miss sit and the other newspaper sites are focused on one or two specific islands.

I'll go ahead and add KHON to my list of sites to review in the future though.
