Gov. DeSantis officially removes Scott Maddox from Tallahassee City Commission
It's official.
Gov. Ron DeSantis today removed Scott Maddox from the Tallahassee City Commission, days after Maddox pleaded guilty to three felony counts of fraud in federal court in Tallahassee.
Maddox was suspended from office Dec. 12, a day after he was indicted on 44 counts in a public corruption case, along with his longtime business partner Paige Carter-Smith, who stepped down from her job as CEO of the Downtown Improvement Authority.
U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle accepted plea agreements Tuesday from Maddox and Carter-Smith on one count of honest services wire fraud, honest services mail fraud and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government on their income tax returns. They face a maximum of 45 years in prison but could shave off time if they cooperate fully with federal prosecutors.
Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19.
