State Democratic Party chair stepping down

Days after grassroots Republicans delivered a stunning but razor-thin Trump victory in Florida, state Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant said Friday she won’t seek re-election in January.

“While this wasn’t the outcome we worked so hard for, we stood for what is best in our country — justice, equality, compassion and hope,” Tant said in a letter sent to the Democratic Executive Committee Friday morning. She was not available for interviews.

Tant said she would use the remainder of her term to ensure a smooth transition for the next chair.

“It’s on each and every one of us to defend the values we hold dear. Let’s keep up the fight and do all we can to move the state and country we love forward together,” Tant told her fellow Democrats.
