I just got a robocall from Pat Boone ...

to vote FOR Solar Power Amendment One. So nice of you to call me Pat,
but blow it out your ass. If I didn't know anything about Amdt 1 it would
be enough for me to know Pat Boone is for it.

11. Constitutional amend #1

Constitutional Amendment 1: Solar Energy (utility-backed citizen initiative)

This amendment establishes a right under Florida’s constitution for consumers to own or lease solar equipment installed on their property to generate electricity for their own use. State and local governments shall retain their abilities to protect consumer rights and public health, safety and welfare, and to ensure that consumers who do not choose to install solar are not required to subsidize the costs of backup power and electric grid access to those who do.

PRO: Puts existing statutory language into state constitution, establishes constitutional right for owners to lease or buy solar equipment for their property and generate electricity for their own use. Creates a constitutional mandate for state and local governments to regulate solar power generators.

CON: Creates assumption that non-solar utility customer are subsidizing solar power users. Erects barriers to allowing customers to enter agreements with third party solar providers to install equipment to produce electricity and then sell it back to customers through mandates and regulations.
