$150M Hard Rock project not happening in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH — On a chilly night back in January 2014, 200 local power brokers sipping cocktails and gazing into glass cases that held Jim Morrison's jacket and Duane Allman's guitar gathered to celebrate the kickoff of condo sales for the planned Hard Rock Hotel and Cafe on the oceanfront.

"Daytona, are you ready to rock?" Canadian developer Henry Wolfond shouted gleefully into the microphone that evening.

Wolfond, and many others at that gala at Daytona International Speedway, thought the summer of 2016 was going to bring more celebration as the first Hard Rock condo owners settled into their new abodes perched more than 175 feet above the waves.

Never did they expect a Hard Rock wake two years later.

it just seemed kind of run down and seedy to me.

Of course, sunny weather in the dead of winter when one is accustomed to shifting back-breaking amounts of snow can make the seediness a bit more charming, I suppose! And the weather was great!
