Mangum seeks $10.5 million in spending cuts at FAMU
Florida A&M University President Elmira Mangum has sent a memo to the provost, vice presidents and athletic director asking them to help the university cut operating expenses by $10.5 million.
“The plan is necessitated by the drop in student enrollment and by the fact that the performance funding allocation we received from the state needs to be targeted towards expenditures that enhance student success,” Mangum says in the July 26 memo obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat.
FAMU lost an estimated $9.2 million in tuition and fees in the 2014-15 fiscal year, largely due to a decline in enrollment.
The university also realized a loss of about $9 million in the 2015-16 fiscal year with last fall’s enrollment at 9,920.
