Florida
Related: About this forumYou know, the last 10 days have been really tough for me, Orlando has been under siege...
so to speak. Christina Grimmie was killed. Pulse Nightclub was shot up and 49 people were killed. That poor little boy was killed by the alligator. The national media has given us ample attention, most of it negative (which is entirely understandable).
Despite our faults, I love this town. I've never left after almost 58 years, except to go to school. I could move, but San Francisco, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles are all far more expensive, and I don't want to live in some very distant suburb. Atlanta would be awesome, but once the novelty wore off, I'm not sure I'd be happier there either. London would be fun, but again, moving to the UK is pretty difficult unless you get married (!!!!) or have a special exemption.
I should work for the Chamber of Commerce or the tourist bureau ....but seriously.... we're a good place. Trust me, I would have left long ago if we really sucked that badly. Thanks for reading.

(5,946 posts)and he was elected twice, well, DW-S suggested a republican to run against him as a democrat, not a winning move, but she tries it again and again, hence the DNC losing record.
I know that it is a hard time and do not mean to attack people who are down. A lot of this could have happened anywhere. No one here in NJ is saying that Grimmie should have not gone to Florida, they were jsut sad she is dead. Some people grieve others tell jokes to keep from grieving, this too will pass. Hopefully people will learn from it, but hey.

(37,457 posts)I never voted for the asshole, and I cannot get rid of him. Trust me, most of we Democrats want him gone and even some Republicans probably do too.
All places have problems. Every.single.one. Even New York, California, Mass. etc etc etc. I'm not going to debate this.
Good day.

(113,553 posts)it is hard to be in a community when there is so much negative attention. I do know the feeling. just remember, though, that the level of love and compassion and caring is far more important, and those of us in the rest of the country are clearly seeing it.
and, as was pointed out, you have your du family.

(16,020 posts)exhausted. There are two vigils this weekend at Lk Eola and I am thinking perhaps attending one might help but another part of me thinks it might intensify this floaty unsettled feeling and just make things worse. I am happy to see the outpouring of support though.

(6,601 posts)For several days the shooting almost didn't seem real, then a couple days ago I just broke down & cried. It was seeing the video for the song "Pulse" that finally hit me.
I'm not in Orlando, I'm east, with NASA in my back yard, & I love my island (if you know the area you know the reference). When Pulse re-opens my wife & I plan to be there, to show our solidarity with our neighbors.
