5.0 earthquake shakes Southwest Florida

A reported 5.0 earthquake occurred 23 miles north of Cuba just before 4 p.m. on Thursday and many people in Southwest Florida felt it.

Currently, there are no reports of damage or injuries in our area.

Cape Coral police say they received a number of 911 calls about "buildings swaying" at both Tarpon Point and Cape Harbour.

Cape firefighters did do a precautionary check on the buildings to make sure they was no damage to the structures or fire supression systems. They report everything was normal.
