Democats won a special election for a seat in the Florida Legislature

NEW PORT RICHEY --

Democrat Amanda Murphy has defeated Republican Bill Gunter in the race for the 36th District House seat in what was a close race.

That was the spot vacated by Mike Fasano when he became Pasco County tax collector.

Murphy received 51 percent of the vote. Gunter received 49 percent of the vote.

Fasano had wished both candidates well last month: Congratulations to both Amanda Murphy and Bill Gunter. I wish them both well in the upcoming October general election. I would ask them to put the people of Pasco first and not the special interest of Tallahassee or the leadership of their respective party."

Congrats! I, too, wonder if this has anything to do with the #gopshutdown.

Then again, isn't EVERY seat here in FL a Republican seat?

They need 15 more seats to achieve parity. They've gained 6 seats in the House since Rick Scot became governor and 2 in the Senate.

He said he would stay neutral in the race. Then a republican PAC in Delray used his name in an ad attacking Murphy.

Fasano, who was at least a decent person (I'm in his district, and I know him and Murphy), and a bit of a maverick, went on TV the next day and said that he'd already voted absentee for Murphy. And for the last week, he's been doing robo-calls for her campaign.

Voter turnout was about 20%. Although Repukes had the better turnout, non-affilliated voters put her over the top.

drive-in shut down a few yrs. back, along with a lot of the orange groves.

If this happens then i might start enjoying Grapefruit and Orange Juice again!
Its past time to take back the government and level the playing field again.
There should be NO poor people in this country unless they just want to be!
