Man drives truck onto National Mall, claims he has anthrax

WASHINGTON A man drove a pickup truck onto the grassy area of the National Mall and claimed he had anthrax Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., a man parked in the middle of the grassy area of the mall near 3rd Street and Madison Drive. The man claimed he had anthrax a serious infectious disease, according to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A Hazmat team from D.C. Fire and EMS Department responded to the scene to assist, and the man was taken into custody by D.C. police. The Hazmat team is checking out a substance in a bucket.
The man whose name has not yet been released had emailed D.C. police to let them know he had been exposed to anthrax, said U.S. Park Police spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Rose.

The investigation is causing some road closures. Both 3rd and 4th streets are closed in the area.
