Huge temperature swing headed for D.C. area: 80s Friday afternoon, 20s Sunday morning.

'Later this week, you may don your shorts and sweat for the first time this year only to need your scarves and shiver hours later. Summer-like air is set to swell over the Washington region Thursday and Friday, before a parting shot from winter crashes into the region Friday night into early Monday.

Such is life in the spring, when sudden temperatures swings are not uncommon. This big shift will come a little over a day after the season’s official start Thursday, at the spring equinox.

Highs may surpass 80 on Friday, before tumbling below freezing both Sunday and Monday mornings in many parts of the region.

Some places may see temperatures change more than 50 degrees between Friday’s high temperature and Sunday’s low.

The abnormally warm weather arrives Thursday as a zone of high pressure off the East Coast pumps warm, southerly air northward ahead of a cold front. Highs Thursday are likely to leap into the mid-to-upper 70s. By Friday, highs of 80 or even a little higher are possible. Such temperatures are more than 20 degrees above average.

Friday’s record high in Washington is 83 degrees from 1945; it could be challenged.

Such warmth is likely to push the cherry blossoms to peak bloom.'>>>

then back into the 50's.

I just want enough warmth and sunshine to kick start the Daffodils into bloom. That will make socially isolating much brighter.
