Person arrested after hanging up 'offensive' posters near American University

Please note that he was NOT charged with "hanging up 'offensive' posters," as that charge would be laughed out of any court in this country in 15 seconds or less, as it ought to be. The charge was "defacing public property."

A person was arrested early Monday morning after they were caught hanging offensive posters on utility poles and bus shelters near American University's campus.

University police stopped and questioned the person around 2 a.m. in the 3500 block of Nebraska Avenue NW. They then notified the Metropolitan Police Department and Metro Transit Police{.} ... The suspect was arrested for defacing public property.

The posters being hung up disseminated an anti-gun control message while depicting Adolf Hitler along with an image of one of the Majorey Stoneman Douglas High Schoolers. ... Stoneman Douglas High was school targeted by a shooter back in February. The suspect was charged with killing 17 students and teachers. Many of the survivors have since become activists for gun control and reform.

The use of Adolf Hitler also comes at a particularly hard time considering this week the university is doing its annual Holocaust Remembrance Week.
