After Comey Extravaganza, D.C. Bars Offering Drink Specials For Sessions Hearing

After Comey Extravaganza, D.C. Bars Offering Drink Specials For Sessions Hearing

BY RACHEL KURZIUS IN FOOD ON JUN 13, 2017 1:53 PM

We thought that the trend of opening bars early for Hill hearings was limited to the James Comey extravaganza, but boy were we wrong!

As noted by Barred in DC,* at least three D.C. establishments are opening early so customers can view Attorney General Jeff Sessions' 2:30 p.m. testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of a communal (and drunk) experience.

Shaw's Tavern (520 Florida Ave NW), which boasted lines around the block when it opened early for Comey's hearing, is hoping to recreate the magic today. While they're already open for lunch by 2:30 p.m., they're promising $5 Session IPA and $6 Alabama Slammers.

Union Pub (201 Massachusetts Ave NE) packed the house last week with its promise to give everyone a round of free drinks every time President Donald Trump tweeted about Comey (Trump kept his itchy Twitter fingers at bay, though they did give out a free round at very end). This time you're around, they're opening at 2 p.m. today with $3 White Russians, $3 Black Russians, and $5 cocktails called "Recuse Juice" from 2 p.m. until Sessions is done testifying.

Penn Social (801 E Street NW) is opening its doors at 2 p.m. today, too, so folks can view the Sessions hearing. They say there'll be some beer specials as well.

Sessions has made his opposition towards cannabis quite clear, but his views on day drinking are less well-known.

We'll update this post if we see more.
