Here's why Democrats filed a bill to outlaw fake vaccination cards in Delaware
Creating or carrying a fake vaccination card in Delaware could result in up to two years in prison under a new bill introduced on Thursday {January 27}.
The legislation by Rep. Paul Baumbach would add creating or possessing counterfeit vaccination cards to the list of things that qualify as a crime of second-degree forgery, which is a class G felony that can result in up to two years in prison.
The bill includes electronic vaccine documents in this definition and does not specify that the documents must pertain specifically to a COVID-19 vaccine to be a crime.
Forging fake vaccine cards is already chargeable at the state level either as forgery or tampering with public records, which can either be misdemeanors or felonies depending on the severity of the crime, according to Delaware Department of Justice spokesperson Mat Marshall.
