Special election today for those living within Newark city limits.

Polls are open for Mayoral election until 7pm tonight. Check your polling place because city elections could have different locations than you’re used to. I know mine is a different location than Federal elections. There are 2 definite Dems, one last minute guy I couldn’t find much info on (I think he’s Dem) and a Green Party candidate.

The new guy (Carley) and a Dem currently on the planning commission and previous public office holder (Clifton) couldn’t take the time to go to a public forum, field questions, and meet constituents. I’ve ruled those guys out. The planning commission guy probably thought there would be too many questions about high rise apartment permits and some questionable developer deals.

I’m supporting the climate scientist/soon to be retired professor/union rep (O’Neal), who has been out meeting people.

One of our polling places (district 2) had an electrical emergency from the storm and within 90 min of the 911 dispatch, they had opened the backup polling place, contacted city residents through an automated notification system, and are keeping the polls for that district open 2 additional hours.

Unfortunately due to the weather, turnout is really low so far.
