Seven arrested in Lake County for welfare fraud totaling $100,000
LEADVILLE Seven people were charged with welfare fraud of more than $100,000.
The investigation by Lake County Department of Human Services focused on benefits the seven received for food assistance and health care through Medicaid.
Prosecutors say they stole more than $100,000 worth of goods and services. Theyve been charged with felonies including forgery, theft and attempt to influence a public servant.
Theft of public services is a serious matter which victimizes not only DHS, but our communities as a whole, said District Attorney Bruce Brown. These are services and monies that should be reserved for those truly in need and willing to follow the law in order to apply for such programs. Perpetrators who take funds are not entitled to harm the truly needy who may be deprived of assistance.
