As big funders of the Tea Party, billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch have underwritten a populist movement against oversized government and 'excessive' regulation.
Now a new report suggests that in their own corporation, they've taken a different approach to government regulation: They've simply ignored it.
An extensive investigation in Bloomberg Markets magazine finds that Koch Industries has made multiple 'improper payments' (read: bribes) to win business in Africa, India and the Middle East; rigged prices with competitors; and used foreign subsidiaries to sell equipment to Iran

Summary: "The catch was, the FBI, which was clearly after Montes, a retired Xerox salesman, for political reasons, conveniently told local police that he was not allowed to register firearms because of a (get this!) 1969 felony conviction for allegedly throwing a coke can at a cop (Montes says he never threw such a can)."
Note that the police knew all about that conviction when Montes first registered his guns. He has not been in trouble with the law since then. Clearly he could have simply been informed that his gun registrations were invalid, and the guns had to be turned in. Why Montes, who has remained politically active and a critic of the government, was really arrested in this Gestapo-like manner became clear when an FBI agent hopped in the car with him right after he was picked up, and said, I am from the FBI and I want to talk to you about the Freedom Road Socialist Organisation. Montes is now facing a possible 22 years in jail for possessing legally registered guns that the LAPD has known for years that he had in his home, and that nobody ever cared about before. (I had to learn about this from the British newspaper the Guardian. The corporate media in America have covered up this outrageous political bust.)

(6,119 posts)(One of many Solidarity statements for Carlos Montes)
We are pleased to announce that on January 4, the California Teachers Association released a letter of support for Carlos Montes. Here is the text of the letter.
On behalf of the 325,000 members of the California Teachers Association, I write in support of educational justice activist Carlos Montes and denounce the arbitrary FBI raid that led to his arrest as an assault on the first amendment rights of every activist and union member.
Mr. Montes has been a longstanding advocate for public school students and teachers. He was a co-founding member of the Brown Berets, a Chicano working class youth organization of the late 1960s and 1970s. He was also one of the leaders of the Chicano Blowouts and participating organizer of the East Los Angeles school walkouts protesting racism and inequality in Los Angeles public education. Mr. Montes was instrumental in successfully demonstrating for and getting Chicano and Black studies programs at California colleges. More recently he has focused his attention on immigrant rights as a member of the Southern California Immigration Coalition, which works to protect immigrant families from arbitrary federal raids.
We believe that recent raids by the FBI in Los Angeles, Chicago and Minneapolis
were unwarranted and targeted several union members and activists. Carlos Montes is a nationally respected leader in the Chicano, immigrant rights and antiwar movements and he should not be targeted for political attacks based upon his views. He has tirelessly fought for adequate public schools and adequate health care for all children, as well as minority rights issues. CTA calls for the end of the grand jury proceedings against trade union activists and urges the Los Angeles District Attorney to drop all charges against Carlos Montes.
Yours truly,
Dean E. Vogel
President
