Heads up, progressive San Jose voters:
Tomorrow is Election Day. Please get out and vote! San Jose voters will decide on Measure B,
which would dangerously weaken the collective bargaining rights of city employees in a similar way to the right-wing, tea party-backed laws that have galvanized progressives in Wisconsin and Ohio. In addition to Measure B in San Jose, all Californians will be deciding on Prop 28 (Term Limit Adjustment) and Prop 29 (Tobacco Tax for Cancer Research).
Are you ready to vote? Please take a quick look at our Progressive Voter Guide.
Measure B is being promoted as a solution to escalating public pension costs, but rather than tackle this problem as San Francisco and other cities have by bringing all parties to the bargaining table and figuring out a solution that works for everyone, Mayor Chuck Reed and his business allies have tried to take a short-cut. The result is that Measure B could be thrown out by the courts even if it passes.
If you have any question of where your voting place is, please call the Secretary of State's toll-free Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE (8683). If you haven't mailed your Vote-by-Mail ballot, you'll probably want to drop it off at your polling place tomorrow. All Vote-by-Mail ballots must be received by 8:00 PM on Election Day, no matter when they're post-marked.
Lastly, whether you agree with our recommended positions or not, PLEASE VOTE!
Yours in the fight to build a progressive California,
Rick Jacobs
