Sen. Barbara Boxer wont run for re-election in 2016WASHINGTON Sen. Barbara Boxer, Californias junior senator since her election in 1992 and a former Marin County supervisor, announced Thursday that she will not run for re-election when her term expires in 2016.
Boxer, 74, made her decision public via a video release with her grandson Zach Rodham, who dressed in shorts for the occasion. He sat in for the pack of reporters Boxer has been dodging in Washington since Republicans won control of the Senate in the November mid-term elections, toppling Boxer from her chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works Committee, where she could make an impact on climate change policy and other big national issues.
She insisted on not calling her decision a retirement, saying, I am never going to retire. The work is too important. But I will not be running for the Senate in 2016.
Boxer said that Im going to continue working on the issues that I love. Ill have more time to help other people through my PAC for a Change Committee. I have to make sure the Senate seat stays progressive.

(68,644 posts)I have to confess that I've been a bit complacent, we're so lucky to have Boxer and then you look at other DUers in other states that have one or two Republicans.
Sheesh.
Happy New Year darlin'!

(75,480 posts)She's getting up there in years and may have to for either health reasons or sadly the grim reaper. Some of her activities lately, like exposing the torture by the CIA, seem downright progressive of her and unDiFi-like. Could be she's looking at retirement down the road?

(10,117 posts)...an excellent choice! Any possibility that Boxer might consider running for governor after Jerry Brown is done? . Her environmental experience would be great for California.

(75,480 posts)I doubt if she would want to be governor.

(10,117 posts)...could make that true.

(793 posts)I mean she could come up here to Congressional district #4 and run against the Asshole Tom Mc Clintock. I have lived all my life in Demo areas and now this district is starting to smell really bad after a couple of terms.

(36,440 posts)Unlike your cross-eyed asshat, McClintock, the The Honorable Barbara Boxer doesn't do 'carpetbagger'.
I suspect she'll spend her spare time hooking up with top notch non-profit organizations and make a splash by getting wonderful things done, unlike the typical cookie-cutter members.
