Any suggestions for inexpensive overnight lodging, near San Jose AMTRAK or SJ airport?

I have to do an overnight in SJ between my train arrival time in the evening and my flight departure time the next morning. I figure around the AMTRAK station would have the most inexpensive choices. Public transit to the airport is frequent so that's no big deal.

I don't drive, so my choices are limited. Any option has to be close in to either AMTRAK or the San Jose airport.

Thanks. ~ pinto

Thanks. Those are some good leads, especially the area info. I've never spent any time in SJ, pinto Jul 2014 #2

not much near Diridon (Amtrak). Extended Stay America, Comfort Suites, and Holiday Inn Express snap to mind, all on N. 1st St. near Gish light rail. From Diridon, take VTA light rail ($2; the opposite direction from the main station) towards Mountain View. From the hotels to SJC, take the light rail from Gish towards Mountain View or Alum Rock to Metro/Airport, the next stop; the free #10 will take you into SJC.

Downtown around Diridon, Arena Hotel on The Alameda (a walk from the station, back toward the light rail side) is probably your best bet.

Hope this helps.

First prize is a night in San Jose. Second prize is two nights in San Jose.

save to switch from AMTRAK to rapid transit into SF. Usually ~ 1/2 hour.
