But I'm really happy for any drops.

I hope this small first storm softens the ground so more of the big one can sink in.

(106 posts)of light rain and snow... from now until sometime in April.
No floods, no Noah's arks, none of that sh*t, just refill all your lakes and reservoirs and mountain snow melt into June.
40 days and 40 nighs.
Then resume your summery weather from Mendocino to San Diego for another 300 days.

(75,480 posts)We will have to pay the price of slides because the watershed has burned in the drought. But we need the rain regardless.

(247 posts)Just had a few minutes of pounding rain on the rooftop in SLO. Most of today we had a steady gentle rain.
SLOWeather.com says there is an 80% chance of rain Thursday night. It predicts a 100% chance of hard rain Friday in the daytime with a 70% chance of rain Friday night. Rains are predicted to taper off over the weekend.
As of today 2/26/14 at 11PM SLOWeather says we have received 23% of normal season to date rain. Today's rainfall measured 1.11" at 11PM.

(90,755 posts)I wasn't going anyplace in particular, just parked at a little redwood grove in the neighborhood to read a bit and listen to NPR. Was very glad to not be on the freeway!
For those who get the LA Times, there's a nice little graphic on page AA1 "Flash floods after fire" that explains the wax-like layer a couple of inches below the soil surface that is generated by fires. That and the fact that mudslides can exceed 35 mph... Yikes.
Still, the various dams that are so low will get a nice infusion of water.

(247 posts)Friday afternoon I drove through misty rain from Morro Bay to Paso Robles via highways One and 46. The coastal hills and farm fields have begun to turn a lush emerald green. It was a very welcome, beautiful, calming sight. The ground and my spirit both got recharged.

(90,755 posts)The only green across the hills was from the oaks and similar, and they were coated with dust.
The rain is so wonderful. Every year I generally get 3+ months of lush sour grass (a kind of oxalis) with its yellow blooms all over my front yard, and this year nothing but short sparse straggles coming up through the autumn leaves. All of a sudden -- whoosh, green. It doesn't take much, and the Earth is so grateful. I hope I get another trip to Santa Ynez Valley soon so I can admire the mountains.
