Light but steady. So good to see here on the Central Coast. Went for a little sundown walk to enjoy it.

(7,820 posts)Don't love driving during the first rain of the season, though.

(106,886 posts)as well as general first rain of the season runoff stuff. This system is just a taste, but the first big rain really pulls stuff downhill, off the roofs, the hillsides onto the roads and into the creeks.

(149,629 posts)It's supposed to get here (SoCal) tomorrow, or maybe later tonight...
We can really use it, plus the snow on the local mountains is so pretty...

(9,696 posts)I've heard that's why driving during the first rain is so crazy.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,629 posts)But honestly, people just freak out, which can really make things worse.
What's happening is the rain loosens the accumulated grease from the cars, and the roads are slippery until the stuff has washed off. A good rain will do it pretty efficiently.

(75,480 posts)I can't water and rely on seasonal rainfall, but it is very welcome. I think I'm going to have to do succulents. Drought tolerant isn't sufficient anymore in our noticeably drier climate since I moved here ten years ago. We had an El Niño that year. I guess those days are over.

(106,886 posts)And, as you know, drought tolerant, in general, doesn't mean the yard will look like a golf course year 'round.
When I first moved here in the late 80's what struck me were the hills. Brown, to light green, to vibrant green and back again. I've come to really appreciate it.

(13,360 posts)still raining so far at Tahoe...supposed to be snow by the morning. I personally hate the white stuff, but it's good for the water needs of the state...

(149,629 posts)Not sure when it started...

(53,339 posts)Snow levels could drop to 3000 feet for L.A. County mountains, with 3-6 inches expected. (Scenic views for CaliforniaPeggy! )
In Antelope Valley heavy rain overwhelmed storm drains, with lots of street flooding and news reporting authorities running "from one accident to another."
News also reported rescues of people caught in flash flooding of SoCal rivers, including a homeless encampment.
All of this is from the latest cbs.la news report.

(2,016 posts)I actually went outside and danced in the rain.
Could have been the wine, but I still say it was the rain that made me dance.

(10,893 posts)come to the North Coast. Though they've said that this year has been dry compared to others, I still have seen more rain around Arcata than I have on average back home in Oakland.
